Realistically idealistic daydreamer, seasoned procrastinator, atheist and monarchist with a secret agenda and a slight inclination towards voodoo practices.
I absolutely love him. For this among other things:
"Prince Philip says all opening and closing ceremonies at the Olympics should be banned.
"I am truly fed up with the opening and closing ceremonies. They are a pain in the neck," said the Queen's husband, renowned for his outspoken views and political gaffes.
Interviewed by Saturday's Daily Telegraph, Philip said he hoped to do "as little as possible" during the London Olympics in 2012. He will then be 91 years old.
"Opening and closing ceremonies ought to be banned," he told the newspaper. "Absolute bloody nuisances. I have been to one that was absolutely, appallingly awful."
When asked what he thinks about Walcott (Rooney's replacement from Arsenal), he said: "No idea. I don't have opinions about things I know nothing about".
Imagine!... two things I totally agree with in one interview ... and from a member of the Monarchy ...we've come a long way since 1916...lol...opening cermonies? ..Yaaaawwwwn!
I had never heard of Prince Philips comments before, I just knew him as a royal figurehead. I researched some of his quotes online, and yes, I agree, he does rock !
What are the ceremonies for anyways ? Besides to waste money...
Prince Philip is not exactly the stuff you can be proud of.
On a visit to a South Asian country, he told a Brit he had better leave the place before he got slitty eyed like the rest.
On another visit to EUrope he made a derogatory comment on the number of medals a military officer was wearing to which the officer retorted that he had earned them, not got got them as a result of just getting married.
He IS actually a royal figurehead. What I like about him is that, being married to the Queen, he hasn't lost his individuality. His job is not easy, I would suppose.
Round Peg,
Of course, if we take ALL the things said by a person, I doubt you'll ever find one to be proud of. My parents are very proud of me, for instance, although I wish I'd stuffed my foot in my mouth instead of speaking on more occasions than I care to remember...
He did mistakes and said some comments that not quite good and right! But I don't think he meant any harm. At least, he and Queen Liz still married, in love and going well and I can't see many people living together for long time especially celebrities. They are Cool couple.
So true, and they never were in the middle of any scandals. In fact, short of thinking of them as rather boring, I actually believe they are quite cool, and they must be enjoying themselves!
Good old Greek Phil... He always has his foot permenantly in his mouth. A few years ago in australia he asked an aborigine chief "do you lot still throw spears at each other" :)
Yeah lol he's cool like that. His mouth runs faster than his brain, I'd say. Of course I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his jokes, especially if they are as tactile as the one you mention, but I'd give him a break anyways. Just because he speaks his mind, and so few of celebrities do that nowadays.
Let's hear it for Phil The Greek!! A few politicians should take lessons from him. Trouble is nowadays to many people are tryng to be "Mr Nice Guy". So I say "Hurrah!" for the good old fashioned `tell-it-like-it-is` genuine characters. There's far to few left and we are the poorer for it.
